Brief History of MEIDE.SG
This is originally the first blog post for MEIDE.SG, but everything else is history.
Since 2017, MEIDE was conceptualized by its founder after realizing a huge gap in the Singapore cleaning industry. There were many cleaning companies, numerous cleaners around, and also a huge pool of home owners who required help with household chores.
The Problem MEIDE Seeks To Solve
However, somehow, there was a lack of linkage between all parties.
For instance, many household individuals needed help, but did not know where to get them. For one, families, housewives, parents and expats did not even knew of the existence of a “part time maid” or “home helper”!
On the other hand, cleaners were looking for more jobs to increase their take home pay. Yet, they could not find a trusted, reliable, and consistent way to do so.

A Lookback On The Cleaning Industry Then
Cleaning companies operated largely based on legacy mode. This means that the companies were usually passed on from father to son, generation to generation.
Many businesses in the cleaning industry cannot survive. New start ups wind up within months, and medium cleaning enterprises are usually merged or acquired by the “big boys” / larger conglomerates.
In fact, most of the available cleaners end up working for large cleaning companies, which only served commercial clients. These included hospitals, offices, factories and retail spaces.
Why A Need For Specialized Home Cleaning?
Although certain cleaning companies developed a branch (as a side business) to cater to home cleaning needs, the supply of this provision was often inadequate and inefficient. Inherently, this was likely because of a lack of dedication and effort put into these projects. For example, a huge cleaning conglomerate would not bother advertising and expanding capacity to cater for peak periods (eg. CNY Spring Cleaning)!
Undiscovered Potential for MEIDE
Moreover, simply due to the fact that cleaning companies did not put enough effort to grow this specialized type of cleaning, there was untapped demand and potential demand.
What does this mean? Put simply, it means that there were many potential customers who have not even been led to desire home cleaning! In comparison, the building, design and renovation industry is well known for helping new home buyers do their interior designing and renovations. Another established industry are the pool of property agents who market property for sale and rental seamlessly. Now, what happens when you need cleaning?
Post renovation cleaning? Post tenancy cleaning? Pre move in cleaning? Furthermore, don’t you require regular maintenance housekeeping even whilst living in your homely abode?
