Tada! Here is the “magic 3” method to spring clean your entire home efficiently and easily:
DECLUTTER, ORGANIZE and CLEAN (DOC)
No wonder people call us the doctor of cleaning! (jk)
Declutter
Always start with decluttering.
Similar to post-tenancy cleaning, we should always start spring cleaning by removing unwanted items.
Trust our years of experience: by simply starting with decluttering, half of the cleaning battle is won!
Here is a fool-proof (relatively) plan to fix up the mess just in time for your parties, festivals and gatherings:
- Donate away your old linens and clothes and footwear
- Save some for usage as rags, perhaps
- Change your bedsheets, if required;
- Make your bed!
- Sort out your books, files and documents on shelves and desks;
- Discard leftover toiletries, expiring foodstuff and snacks and other random loose items;
- Get rid of loose packaging wraps and boxes – those are unsightly!
- Pro tip: you can stuff plastic wraps inside boxes and store boxes within boxes and so on, if you really want to keep them for warranty sake;
- Clear all those toys and appliances lying around the desks and floor;
- Arrange the bottles, containers and apparels in the living area and dining area
- Tidy up the kitchen
- Wash the dishes, and consider refreshing your fridge and washing machines
- Clear the trash bins.
Alright, now, let’s get to work.
Organize, organize and organize
After you have decluttered the mess in your house, bear in mind that you may need to repeat the process again.
Thus, MEIDE cleaning recommends you keep up the cycle of:
Throwing away / Donating Stuff → Packing Up Stuff → Tidying Up Stuff → Throwing away / Donating again
Repeat this cycle until you are satisfied with your state of spring cleanliness.
We call this cycle the “organize, organize and organize” cycle!
Via this cycle of organizing and reorganizing your items at home, you will be amazed by the cleaning results! (p.s. Does this sound like Marie Kondo?)

Now that you have got all the loose items cleared and stashed away, we can finally start the cleaning properly.
There are a few ways to go about the cleaning.
For beginners and for thorough cleaning, we recommend a systematic approach either from top to bottom, left to right or simply starting from the most difficult area!
A general list of areas and things to cover is:
- Toilets, WC
- Kitchen, Laundrette
- Living Rooms
- Dining Areas
- Furniture and Fittings
- Appliances
- Bedrooms, Walkways
- Balconies
- Porch, Yards
- Staircases
- Outdoor areas like garden, pool, front gate and door
If there is a lack of time, and you are rushing an urgent spring clean, a good idea is to prioritize which tasks and areas you want to clean first!
Spring Cleaning Tools
And, do not forget to prepare all your required cleaning tools too!
There is no 1-size-fits-all list of cleaning tools, as the list of tools will vary depending on:
- Size of the house;
- Areas to cover (as above);
- Personnel involved – are they experienced and fit and tall enough?
- Desired outcomes (eg. rust removal and mold treatment needs more specialized tools!)
A key difference between spring cleaning and general cleaning is that ladders, vacuums, and other specialized tools may be required!
Now, we have to plan the cleaning duration too. It can take from a few hours for most HDB and condo units, to spread over multiple sessions for landed premises.

Remember to consider how many people will be down to get their hands dirty. Grandma, grandpa, uncle, and maybe involve the kids?
Set out a proper checklist and allocate areas and cleaning tasks for each one. Make the spring cleaning a fun and family-bonding affair!
